Celebrating a heritage of accomplishment.
The unique mixture of old world ways and a drive for excellence resulted in the Moishes we know today. This has always been a place were people gather to celebrate achievements – because it’s in our DNA. We believe that families and business people have always come here to mark special occasions and meetings when real quality is the order of the day. We didn’t plan it that way, it just happened. And we’re flattered — flattered and inspired to keep living up to our reputation.
The World meets at Moishes.
Over the years, politicians, entertainers, writers and other celebrities have chosen Moishes, including: The Honourable Prime Ministers Pierre Trudeau, Kim Campbell, Jean Chrétien and Paul Martin; Paul Desmarais, Charles Bronfman, Danny Kaye, Frank Sinatra, Leonard Cohen, Corey Hart, Bruce Boxleitner, Celine Dion, Marlon Brando, Jerry Springer, Mandy Moore, Angelina Jolie, Billy Bob Thrton, Samuel L. Jackson, Johnny Depp, Ray Liotta, The Rock, David Hyde Pierce, Howie Mandell, Rob Lowe, John Laroquette, Robert Downey Jr., Kelsey Grammer, Don Rickles, Jim Belushi, Robert Duvall, Carl Reiner, Kelly Ripa, and the rock group U2. Sports celebrities have included Andy Roddick, Maurice Richard, Patrick Roy, Felipe Alou, Moises Alou, Pedro Martinez, Jean Beliveau, Jose Theodore, Mike Rebeiro, Martin Haular, Darcy Tucker, Mike Komisaref, Shayne Corson, Mike Bossy, Guy Lafleur, Yvon Cournoyer, Jacques Laperriere, Vladimir Guerrero, Barry Bonds, Mark MacGuire, Ozzie Smith, Mikeal Schumacher, Ralf Schumacher, Hulk Hogan, Annie DeMontigny, and Wilt Chamberlain. Finally, Karol Wojtyla, who would later become Pope John Paul II, ate here while still a Cardinal.
We’re as popular with tourists as we are with locals, which again, we take as a great compliment. Montrealers come to dine because they recognize themselves in our restaurant. Visitors dine here because somehow our name has become synonymous with something ineffably “Montreal.” We think it has to do with our roots, and how those roots guide us and what we put on the table in front of you. But we’d love to know what you think, too.
Selected as one of the World’s 10 best steakhouses.
Whatever it is, we must be doing something right. In 2008, Forbes Traveler magazine called us “one of the World’s best steakhouses,” and said this about us:
“ Montreal’s Jewish community didn’t just give the world Leonard Cohen, Mordecai Richler and William Shatner; it also gave birth to this world-class steakhouse. The defiantly non-kosher menu offers a justifiably famous shrimp cocktail alongside the T-bones and filet mignons, but side dishes like potato latkes and verenikas harken back to the old country. ”
It’s an honour, and one we keep trying to live up to every day.
As Montreal and the Main evolve, so does Moishes.
This restaurant is intimately connected to the life of the street it’s on, and the city around it. We like to say that as go Montreal and The Main, so goes Moishes.
We evolved from our roots in the neighborhood, and that neighborhood is constantly changing and evolving. You can still see traces of the immigrant community that shaped the street decades ago, but The Main is changing as Montreal changes. So we adapt.
We have a long history, but we refuse to be stuck in time. We keep attracting new faces, and while remaining consistent in what we offer, we still have plenty of surprises in store.
